Due to the loss in dexterity, it may be useful to exploit redundancy
and include cues that rely on several senses, such as visual
and auditory, in addition to tactile. In a degraded environment, this
will help ensure correct perception. Feedback in the form of lights/
visuals and sounds may be useful to help the worker know when
the correct button has been pushed. In order to avoid control
activation errors, keys and buttons must be well spaced, and
properly labeled. It would be advisable to avoid touch screens and
voice control inputs for these devices, due to the conditions in
which they are used. Glow in the dark or lighted buttons, easy grips
on the sides and bottom of equipment, large controls, and clear
displays will help make the equipment easier to use and less
frustrating for workers in the Level A suit.
