The LOD50 of the RapidChek Select and the ISO method were evaluated with artificially contaminated minced beef meat and sausage samples
(Table 2). At low contamination level, less than 100% of the samples were
tested positive with either assay. At high contamination level, both
methods gave positive results for all samples. For minced beef meat samples, LOD50 of RapidChek Select and ISO method were 1.00 cfu/25 g and
0.63 cfu/25 g, respectively. For sausage samples, LOD50 of RapidChek Select and ISO method were 2.00 cfu/25 g (Table 3). These values indicated
that the detection limits of two methods were comparable. The LOD50 of
both methods for sausage samples were higher than those of obtained
from minced beef meat samples. These differences can be explained by
the inhibitory effects of spices and nitrite in sausage samples.
