The orthodoxies within the “Organizational Model” influence how we interact internally and how
decisions get made. This can lead to the phenomenon of “Real Guys”. Who are the people (functionallyor lines of business) in our organization who have a disproportionate amount of power given their
position in the organization? In the oil and gas business, real guys drill holes –they are the ones who
ascend the hierarchy more quickly, they can squash ideas easily, and they are viewed as being in the
place to be!
