New fixtures are being developed for the
purpose of using less water. However, newer
fixtures are not necessarily better. Equipment
that attempts to reduce water consumption
may be unpleasant to use. Some items
intended to conserve water, such as toilets with
reduced tank capacity, may actually increase
water consumption in practice. There is a
place for new technology, but combine it with
common sense in selecting fixtures and with
motivating people to use water efficiently.
