Herman and Knobloch (2004) reported that teachers should anticipate mixed attitudes fromstudents who have not experienced constructivist activities in previous learning experiences.Constructivist activities can confuse students and teachers due to the dramatic change in roles and student’s perceptions of how instructional methods impact their learning. Herman and Knobloch recommended gradually modifying units of study, incorporating pieces of constructivist methods over time, so to create a less drastic change for students. They also found that students who were not accustomed to constructivist instruction “did not know how to handlea new freedom in the classroom” which lead to classroom management issues. However, students quickly adapted by the second week to the new situation and became activelyengaged.
