Although The Body Shop might appear to have a stronger community trade component, Starbucks is also trying to strengthen its commitment to its suppliers. Starting in the early part of this century, Starbucks started increasing its purchase of Fair Trade Certified Coffee. Growers satisfying certain criteria receive a higher price for their beans, ensuring that those communities are receiving a fair income. Although this coffee only represents six percent of Starbucks’ total coffee purchases, it shows a growing responsibility to the needs of its producers.
