Parmjit S. Panesar is working as a professor in Food Biotechnology Research Laboratory, Department of Food Engineering andTechnology, S.L. Institute of Engineering & Technology (with status Deemed University, established by the Government of India), Longowal, Punjab, India. In 2005, he received the BOYSCAST (Better Opportunities for Young Scientists in Chosen Areas of Science & Technology) fellowship award by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Ministry of Science and Technology, the Government of India, to carry out advance research in industrial biotechnology at Chembiotech Laboratories, Birmingham Research Park, University of Birmingham, the United Kingdom. His postdoctoral research focussed on the development of immobilized cell technology for the production of lactic acid from whey. Besides this, he has also been involved in the US- and Australian-sponsored projects on the scale-up of a commercial polysaccharide derivative in biomedical applications and the critical evaluation of a commercial test kit for the detection of trace levels of explosives. In 1999, he was awarded the Young Scientist Fellowship by Punjab State Council for Science & Technology, India.
