Employment Opportunities, Income and Infrastructure
As new hotels and resorts mushroom on Phuket’s white sandy beaches, the economic benefits abound. Obviously, there are more employment opportunities for local people and job-seekers from other regions eager to fill the vacancies afforded by the increasing number of resorts and tour operators. Consequently, Phuket is amongst the wealthiest provinces in Thailand with one of the highest per-capita income levels comparable even with the capital Bangkok. In addition to job creation, local people have benefitted from significant improvements in public infrastructure – such as roads, telecommunications, and hospitals - which have been developed by the private sector to increase business productivity, and by government to attract investors and support Phuket’s phenomenal growth.
