Usually, as a result of TEM images, nanomaterials are
present in polymers not as primary single particles in the size
range below 5 nm but as aggregates, consisting of primary NPs
larger than 5 nm in diameter, of up to several hundred
nanometers. Therefore, migration of NPs from polymer
nanocomposites, cannot take place. Nanomaterials once
embedded in a polymeric host matrix used for food packaging
are immobilized there and have no potential to leach out into
the food. The overall conclusions from these findings is that
exposure of the consumer to nanoparticles via migration from
food contact plastics into foods cannot be expected.
