The American Heart Association Strategic Planning Task Force has developed the following impact goals: “By 2020, to improve the cardiovascular health of all American by 20% while reducing deaths from CVD and stroke by 20%” (Lloyd-Jones et al., 2010). Part of the process of formulating those goals was to define cardiovascular health and the metrics to be use to monitor cardiovascular health over time.
