In this paper, a dynamic characteristic model of a solar cell
module using impedance spectroscopy was developed and the effects
of the ripple current for the solar cell module were evaluated.
The power losses of the solar cell module due to the 120 Hz ripple
were measured by experiments and theoretically analyzed to verify
that the photovoltaic power system efficiency may decrease
significantly as a result of it. In addition, the power losses by the
ripple current were calculated on modules by a number of manufacturers.
It was found that the 120 Hz ripple current can cause up
to 25% of the power loss of the solar array depending on the make
when the insolation level is 400[W/m2]. It is proposed that the
magnitude of the 120 Hz ripple current ratio should be limited to
within 20% in designing a single phase inverter.
