Whether or not these particular instances are accurate (and Cooke and Massey might disagree with the above analyses), there appears to be a danger of severing the lower-level abstractions from the more abstract elements of Marxist theory and discarding the latter, thereby losing a great deal of explanatory power. Discarding more abstract concepts seems to us to be at least as dangerous as any tendency to work at too high a level of abstraction.
