Statistics are revealing an adverse trend – the financial situation of a venue or a department does not have to move outside the 'warning parameters' mentioned above for action to be taken. If regular statistics demonstrate a distinct unfavourable trend (in income, expenses or both), it may be advisable to take action before the outer limits of the guidelines are reached.
This type of pre-emptive management can avoid panic and danger situations becoming disasters – the key being to introduce ongoing (and perhaps minor) adjustments to procedures, advertising, staffing, etc before a small issue becomes a major impediment.
