One problem with such portfolio is that they can become very large and unfocused. Good portfolio evidence is clearly targeted, and its relevance is explained in the writing which accompanies it. A further, effective focusing method is the compiling of composite evidence. A scheme of work may be associated with a lesson plan, a pupil outcome, and an evaluation, so that the portfolio becomes holistic in character rather than atomistic. Similarly, a portfolio can show progress using a set of evidence relating to a specific development. A lesson plan, an evaluation, a piece of research and another, later lesson plan (which shows progress from the earlier plan; you reflected and learned something new) together demonstrate an improving practice. Your portfolio should tell a story.
