Aside from professional curiosity, librarians are
interested in planning and architecture for another reason.
Many librarians find themselves involved in building
projects, and they seek information in order to handle
these duties* Between fiscal years 1973 and 1978, over
six hundred eleven million dollars was expended for new
public library construction and additions, remodelings, or
renovations of older buildings.^ Consequently, interest in
the concerns of public library architecture continues to
remain high.
