The science of gratitude is young. Even so, considerable
progress has already been made in
understanding how both state and trait gratitude
are conducive to well-being. Of the 10 hypotheses
advanced in this chapter, considerable empirical
support was found for the majority of them.
Some of these have been the object of more
research than others, so it may be premature
to suggest that a comprehensive evaluation of
each has been accomplished. One conclusion that
we can draw with confi dence is that relation
between gratitude and well-being is multiply
