Motors designed for direct connection to
reciprocating compressors are usually engine type
or single bearing construction. The stator is
mounted on soleplates set in the foundation. A
special case is the flange-mounted motor in which
the stator frame is mounted on a flange on the
compressor frame. In either case, torque
requirements are usually within the range of
normal design, low speed motors. See Figure 41.
The torque values may be exceeded, for certain
compressors and vacuum pumps, the manufacturer
should be checked for specific values.
