In congruence with the unsafe practices three quarters of the entire sample reported that they had experienced health problems due to pesticides, such as a burning sensation on the skin, sore eyes or headache. Two percent of the sample were hospitalized. There was a significant association between the level of farmers' education (primary or lower versus secondary or higher) and the number of farmers who were hospitalized (χ2(1)=7.005, p=0.008). This indicates that more highly educated farmers went to hospital more often for treatment of accidental pesticide hazards than those who have less education
