(b) Sugar extraction.---Add 100 mL alcohol—H2O (1+1) and weigh. Place in 80-85OC water bath 25 min and stir occasionally. Cool to room temperature and add alcohol to original weigh. Filter portion of extract through 0.45 µm nylon syringe filter (Nalge Nune international, 75 Panorama Creek Dr, PO Box 20365, Rochester, NY 14602-0365, USA, or equivalent). If cloudy, centrifuge 10 min at ≥2000 rpm. If still cloudy, recentrifuge portion on of extract 5 min at ≥3500 rpm and filter through 0.45 µm nylon syringe filter. If guard column is used, omit step (c) and save filtered extract for LC analysis.
