Gingerbread is something the Russian people have always had a particularly soft spot for. It was baked from yeast-leavened dough and flour and water paste. Dark brown, with honey and molasses, rich and delicious, the gingerbread could be of different shapes and sizes: embossed, print, ritual and silhouette. Particularly loved were the print gingerbread. These were made with the help of special wooden boards with different shapes and patterns cut out in them, which were thus imprinted on the gingerbread.
