The aim of any 100% inspection NDT system is to be fast,
accurate and low cost. Acoustic Resonance Testing (ART) is a fast and low cost system making it ideally suited for 100% inspection systems.
The basic principle has been in use for centuries wherein the object is impacted and a human evaluates the acoustic response heuristically. When an object is impacted it resonates in its natural modes.
This resonance produces an audible acoustic response.
This response is like a fingerprint of the object and defects can be detected due to the variation in this response.
This paper aims to develop low cost automated inspection system to detect defects such as cracks, inclusion etc. using ART principles, improving both the accuracy and the efficiency of the existing ART systems [1].
