It is quiet. Incredibly quiet. Especially at night. The neighbors are far enough away that you can’t hear their barking dogs or be disturbed every time they step outside. You never know when a visitor pulls up to their house, and you never hear the slams of their car doors. This is pure bliss to an urban dweller!
You can see the stars. Unless you are unfortunate enough to live near one of those country dwellers who believe in security lights, one can see the stars so plainly at night when living in the country! It is awe-inspiring to stand outside and look up at the stars without all of the light noise that you are subjected to in an urban environment.
It is private. Overall in the country it is so private one could dance around nekkid in the back yard without anyone being the wiser. You can sit on your porch and not be bothered with nosey folks walking or driving by staring at you. If you have a party there are no neighbors to disturb, so you don’t have to worry about having the cops called because your music is loud!
Less visitors. In urban areas someone is always knocking on your door to attempt to use the phone or sell you something. My big gripe was when my neighbors discovered that I worked on computers: whenever their systems starting giving them problems they would knock on my door at all hours of the day or night wanting free assistance. I soon learned to keep my window shades down so that no light filtered through so they would not know if I was awake at night!
It feels safer. The silence and the blackness give one an incredible sense of security—though several of my country living friends and family state that they have had numerous things stolen from both inside and outside of their homes despite their remote locations.
You can let your animals run. Instead of having to walk your pet on a leash you can turn them out and allow them some freedom. I’m sure my mutt appreciates that—I know I do!
Cheap rents. Some rents can be so sweetly inexpensive—I’ve had friends who only paid a hundred dollars or so a month to rent decent-sized houses, but the reason they are so cheap is because they are so far from everything. If you don’t have reason to travel to town often these rents can provide you with an incredible savings. I’ve known some who were allowed to live rent free just to watch over property or animals in the owner’s absence!
The ability to own farm animals. This one can save you lots of money on your grocery bill. While you can garden almost anywhere you need some space to raise a cow, hog or chicken for slaughter. Some are now raising chickens and rabbits in urban areas for human consumption but it is still a rather complicated subject with the numerous zoning regulations in urban areas.
