The membership in the conventional Sangha is attained Through the consent of the Order in a formal ceremony with witnesses, following the procedures set out in the in the Vinaya. The membership in the Noble Sangha is attained when the Quality of transcendence (lokuttara dhamma) appears in one is heart as a result of is own behavior and practice, with no formalities of any sort. All the Buddhists - whether formally ordained or not, no matter what their sexes, or social positions - can become members of this Sangha. This is termed as being ordained by the Dhamma, being self ordained in the way that cannot be faulted. To speak in abstract terms, the qualities of transcendence, stable and sure, that appear in the hearts of those who practise - leading them solely to the higher realms and closing off the four states of destitution (apaya) - are taken together, called the Noble Sangha
