Bovine diarrhea virus (BVDV) is an infectious disease
agent that can be transmitted by natural service or artificial
insemination (AI), with the possibility of fertilization failure
or early embryonic mortality which, in turn, leads to repeat
breeding [7–9]. Noncytopathic strains of BVDV are of
particular concern to the ET industry because transmissionof this type of virus by embryos and semen might result in
the infection of fetuses, possibly producing persistently
infected, immunotolerant offspring that shed the virus
throughout life [10].
