Many previous researchers have studied the relationship between pore characteristics and mechanical strength . Hanetal. reported that the effect of sintering temperature on ceramic material strength could be analyzed by porosity and grain bonding area [25], and Wenetal. reported that there was inversely proportional relation ship between porosity and mechanical strength [26]. Fig. 5 shows the mechanical strength of the prepared filters at various sintering temperatures. However, there was not a linear relationship unlike previous research. The mechanical strengths of the prepared filters were weaker in the order of 1350 C, 1550 C, 1400 C, 1500 C and 1450 C. The lowest mechanical strength of a filter media sintered at 1350 C might be due to the higher porosity as mentioned previously. However,we cannot explain the mechanical strengths of other filters with the same parameter;the filter sintered at 1450 C had the highest mechanical strength, and the filter prepared at 1550 C had secondary lower mechanical strength even though it has the lowest porosity in comparison to the other ceramic filters.
