This mesmerizing ballet photography series captures dancers' movement in a new and beautiful way. Photographer Jesus Chapa-Malacara captures not just the ballet pose itself, but uses a special technique to showcase the entire move.
The former dancer struggled, explaining "When you're a dancer, you spend a lot of time thinking about the perfect lines you can create, but more about the movement in between." With photography, it is difficult to shoot that movement, since it's about a singular moment in time.
The photographer used a digital camera to keep the shutter open to capture the entirety of a dance move in a single frame. There is continuous light as a strobe is set off manually the second the shot is taken. Images have been contrasted, but not Photoshopped.
