Mapping is one of determining factors of visual effect
performance of digital model. It reflects the texture and
surface of object and other information, to make model
more real visual feeling. In MAYA, the realization of
materials and map for model can be achieved by
program mapping and bitmap mapping. Program
mapping is one kind of material effect or texture effect,
which are generated by computer software. It contains
texture, material, object physical properties and other
information. As shown in Figure 1 the final metal
effect of lion door buckle is completed by program
mapping of MAYA. Through importing external
images, and assigning the UV coordinate system to the
model, bitmap mapping is the most commonly used
method of materials and map, so UV deployment is an
important method of materials and map, and it is a
manual process of precisely assigning and giving
bitmap to model by flattening UV model and making
materials and map drawing on it. Color painting and
carving flowers of ancient architecture of Ming and
Qing Dynasties need to realize precise positioning
mapping through flattening the UV. As shown in
Figure 2 is the process of flattening UV.
