The tables that follow give statistical proof of the practical value of co-operative education: in
greater space efficiencies; in lower student-loan amounts and better repayment rates; in greater
wages (and tax paying) both during university and after; and in higher employment rates and
career earnings. These are substantial benefits to students, their families, and the state that
supports their education. But there are other benefits as well: to the institutions that teach them,
for co-operative education students are among the most capable and highly-motivated in our
universities; and for employers who nearly unanimously praise co-op as a means of gaining
access to enthusiastic new employees who bring fresh skills and knowledge to the organization,
and as a way of recruiting students for permanent employment after graduation.
