drawing a cross-section
cross-sections will help you to find out more about the shape and slope of land. try making a cross-section of the land between points A and B on the map below. start by placing the straight edge of a piece of paper on the map so that it goes through A and B. keep the paper steady and mark on where each contour crosses it adding the height as shown.
on another piece of paper draw a line the same length as A and B and then draw lines st 5 millimetre contour height as shown in picture 2. mark the contour heights from your first piece of paper onto this with small crosses then join up he crosses. the line you draw in will show a cross-section of the land forms in that area.
