Just over half of the recorded violent
crimes against girls under the age of 12
were committed by a relative (56%),
including a parent (biological, adoptive,
step or foster), sibling, uncle, aunt or other
extended family member. Just under onequarter
(23%) were perpetrated by a
casual acquaintance, 10% by a stranger,
5% by a friend and 5% by an authority
figure.
