English language requirements
Evidence of English language proficiency is required for both meeting the requirements of the Tier 4 (student) visa and our academic requirements. Requirements vary by course but are usually the equivalent of:
IELTS 5.5–6.5 for foundation courses
IELTS 6.0–7.0 for bachelor’s courses
IELTS 6.5–7.5 for postgraduate programmes
We also accept other English language tests such as: Pearson Test of English (PTE), Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) and Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE).
English language requirements
Depending on the course, IGCSE or IB English Language may be accepted. Some Schools/Faculties within the University may under certain circumstances accept the Cambridge GCE O-level (1120) English Language in place of IELTS. Please contact the School/Faculty that you are interested in directly to enquire whether your qualification is acceptable.
Some Schools ask that the appropriate score has been met before you apply for a course. Other departments give conditional offers subject to applicants achieving our general entry requirement level of English language proficiency before starting the course.
We offer a range of English language courses to help you develop your language skills.
Other entry requirements
Please note that this is generic information only. Faculties and Schools have different entry requirements and some qualifications may not be acceptable for certain courses, so it is important to check with the School directly before you apply.
Some courses have additional entry requirements such as previous work experience, submission of written work with the application or previous study of a particular subject.
