Tako had studied the results of process changes in advance using a simulation programme, specially developed for pulp and paper industry. To gather the necessary data on Tako’s processes and feed them into the computer programme demanded three months’ work. The renewal of the process was finished during the summer 2004 and the production continued since that. The costs of the project were 1 million euros and the payback time was one and a half year. The cost savings were composed of the cost of 2000 tons of saved fibre, and the avoided waste costs.
