Technology Development
MPT dedicates significant resources to both new product and new process development. Design and development of a new suspension program is, in many cases, longer than the production life cycle of that program. State of the art processes must be continually developed to provide for a zero-defect product and all aspects of the design must be proved prior to entering mass production. As MPT continues its technology development, it continues to establish one of the strongest patent portfolios in the industry, approaching 150 patents in 2005.
Product Design
MPT uses state of the art mechanical and electrical design and analysis tools to help our customers develop products that meet their needs. At MPT, we can design turnkey products or work with customers to improve cost and performance starting from their own designs.
Component Etching
MPT employs chemical etching to fabricate the stainless steel components used in suspensions assemblies. Our subsidiary, Acrathon Precision Technology, uses a state of the art roll to roll etching process to produce high quality etchings in very high volume.
Circuit Fabrication
MPT is investing in new capacity to build the circuits used in suspensions. These components, also called “trace-gimbal-assemblies” are attached to the suspension and conduct electrical signals into and out of the hard disk drive. Our new circuit facility will open in 2005 in Chang An, China.
Assembly and Automation
MPT has the automated assembly processes and clean room environments required for today’s nano-scale suspension products. With clean room manufacturing operations in China and Thailand, MPT is well positioned to service our customers in the HDD industry.
