In the morning of the ceremony day, a Hindu god, together with a Buddha image are carried in precession to the alter. Plants and other symbols of Thai agriculture are placed it. The ceremony really begins when three pieces of cloth of different lengths called “Panung ” are presented to the Ploughing Lord to choose, and the Brahmans forecasts the amount of rainfall according to the length of the chosen “Panung”. If his choice is the longest one, there will be little rain during the coming year; if it is the shortest one, rain will be plentiful, and the one of medium length indicates an average rainfall.
