In the Philippines, cassava (M&hot esculentu) and maize (Zea maize) are used as
human food and as ingredients in animal feeds. These plants are good sources of carbohydrates
and are easy to grow even under adverse conditions. Cooked maize has been used
by shrimp farmers as feed for the tiger shrimp, Penaeus monodon, given during the last
month of culture to increase shrimp body weight.
