In this research, it was targeted to analyze the opinions of the tutors working in special and formal education schools located in Nicosia Province of Northern Cyprus, regarding the computer use in teaching how to read and write. In the research they carried out in 2002, Basal and Batu indicated the families’ indifference to the problems the mentally-handicapped students faced in learning how to read and write; the lack of equipment; and the absence of proper resources. And in this research conducted, the special education tutors indicated that, the students could
read and write but they were having troubles; as the learning speed of each student is different, the resources prepared on the internet were not sufficient and suitable, and that the number of websites supporting the reading and wiritng teaching, was small. In addition, they made suggestions for the preparation of the materials regarding teaching sound-based reading.
