The aims of this work were (i) to determine the effect of Cd contamination
on P. pinaster development, mycorrhizal colonization
and metal accumulation and (ii) to test the effect of ECM fungal inoculation
on those parameters. The experiment was conducted in a
greenhouse using 6 months-old P. pinaster seedlings from seeds of
trees classified as plus, which have higher capacity of resistance to illnesses
and adverse conditions and therefore ought to be considered
in soil reforestation processes. Forest soil was used as substrate and
three Cd concentrations were tested, 0, 15 and 30 mg Cd kg−1.
