Additional impor- tance should be given to the screening of phytochemicals such as secondary metabolites to this crop which is not merely ornamental but also has functional uses. These crops have been previously studied for their content like rutin, hyperoside, quercetin and kaempferol and reported (Liang, Liu, Zhao, Ban, & Li, 2009). More- over it was reported by Zhang, Li, Zhao, Korban, and Han (2012) that genetically the wild apple species has considerable variations, but their biochemical diversity was unknown. In this study the antioxidant potential of wild apple (M. prunifolia) collected at two different stages were compared with high flavan-3-ol contain- ing fruits like apple (Malus domestica), black grapes (Vitis vinifera) and beverage like black tea (Camellia sinensis).
