Molecular cloning and mutagenesis experiments
have reinforced the conclusion
that all K1 channels have essentially the
same pore constitution. Without exception,
all contain a critical amino acid sequence,
the K1 channel signature sequence. Mutation
of these amino acids disrupts the channel’s
ability to discriminate between K1
and Na1 ions (4).
