The results of functional treatment in intraarticular knee fractures and multifragment fractures of the shaft of femurs were assessed subjectively and objectively. Rasmussen’s score scale was chosen for this purpose because it complies with the requirement of maximum objectivity. The results were scored from zero to six. Treated patients answered such questions as’ Is the injured joint painful? Does pain occur during weather changes, following exercise’ or long time walking? Objective parameters included gait efficiency, free walk without limping, slight limping, marked limping, mark limping, and iefficient walking. The range of knee motions and motions of the proximal and distal joints were also scored. Lack of full knee extension was considered a poor result of the treatment. Attention was drawn to knee stability and muscular atrophy, especially quadriceps muscles of the thigh.
