Up to now, all reduced sampling strategies suggested in the literature take into account the parameters that influence NH3 emissions, such as the increasing live weight of the pigs during a fattening period and the seasonal variations in NH3 emissions. A different method, that does not take into account influencing parameters, was recently published for determining nitrous oxide emissions from wastewater treatment plants (Daelman, De Baets, van Loosdrecht, & Volcke, 2013). In this study, an analysis was performed to evaluate if a similar methodology could be applicable for estimating EFs for NH3 from fattening pig facilities. A methodology was evaluated which investigated the precision and accuracy of the estimated EF solely as a function of the sampling frequency and strategy.
