Falls are a key cause of significant health problems and are
leading cause of accidental injuries and deaths to the elderly
[1-3]. Currently, more elderly people live alone than with
families. When those people fall while living alone, mostly
they cannot help themselves. Without people being aware and
assisting, their injuries could be lethal. To help assist the
elderly and caregivers, this work is to extend our existing system
of detecting daily activities and in-house locations [4].
The new system is intended to help elderly people who are
living alone and give a tool to their caregivers to monitor their
daily activities and in-house locations. In this study, we propose
the activity detection and in-house location detection by
developing a system on a smartphone to monitor key activities
at home. We provide various user-interfaces and visualization
techniques to make the system easy to understand and flexible
for different user needs, such as real-time responses to activities
and in-house locations, activity history, health risk level
summary, and the summary report which can be generated by
selected time frame.
