The use of whole crop maize silage as a feed component in cattle rations and for biogas production has substantially increased, and in Denmark, the growth area of maize for forage has increased with 90% during the last 10 years (StatisticsDenmark, 2013). Therefore, factors affecting the feed value of whole crop maize silage such as genotype, mechanical processing and stage of maturity at harvest have been investigated (Johnson et al., 1999; Oba and Allen, 1999b; Hymøller et al.,2005).
