Vertebrate frugivores are the dominating seed dispersal
vectors for tropical tree species (Jordano, 2013). Owing to
their slower metabolism with longer seed retention and
their larger home ranges, particularly larger vertebrates
play an important role in long-distance dispersal (Vellend
et al., 2003). Furthermore, the viability of endozoochorously
dispersed seeds is usually increased through ingestion
with slightly stronger effects on germination for
nonflying mammals (Traveset, 1998).
