While NSAID negatively affect bone healing, there is insufficient evidence to support withholding NSAID after a fracture or orthopaedic procedure in domestic species. Certainly, fractures and osteotomies can heal in the face of NSAID ad- ministration, and NSAID are important for their potent antiinflammatory and anal- gesic effects after bone injury. However, when the speed and effectiveness of bone healing is of particular concern, such as in delayed union, nonunion, tenuous ortho- paedic repairs, or in patients where delayed bone healing is expected, it is prudent to consider the evidence when prescribing NSAID.
