Conan Doyle became famous, though, for his books and short stories about Sherlock Holmes. The first Sherlock Holmes story was A study in Scarlet (1887). But Holmes really became popular after 1891, when Conan Doyle wrote a number of short stories for the stand Magazine. Some of these were later collected together as The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes. All he stories in this book are taken from there. There are fact five books of Holmes short stories. There are also four complete books; the best-known of these is probably The Hound of the Baskervilles. Sherlock Holmes groups and clubs exist all over the world. The stories are also the subjects of films, radio and television programmer.
