TS values (24 h water soaking) of particleboard samples ranged from 13.61 to 22.92% depending on the manufacturing process variables (Table 4). A maximum TS value of 15% is allowed for particleboards used in load-bearing applications in dry conditions [18]. The results of TS test showed that particleboard types 7 and 8 met the required level of TS for load-bearing applications. The hardener type and conditioning period significantly affected the TS while the urea usage did not affect the TS (Table 6). The particleboards made with the ammonium chloride had the lowest TS, followed by the particleboards made with ammonium sulphate and aluminium sulphate, respectively. The TS of the particleboards containing urea was slightly higher than that of the particleboards without urea (Table 4).
