Make it a team thing
Often you don’t want to be the odd one out when everyone is working through their lunch break. The last thing you want to do is look like you’re slacking off because you’re “walking around too much.” Eating at your desk everyday really does nothing for your productivity–not to mention all those crumbs festering in your keyboard!
It’s important to get the message out there that short walks and taking your lunch breaks are part of healthy living, so get your team and managers involved in spreading the message. You could even ask your manager to send around an email, which encourages a short five minute walk in the afternoon or after lunch so people feel comfortable taking that time for themselves.
Try promoting a weekly team lunch, where as a team you sit away from your desk and eat lunch together. You’ll find you’ll be more rested and refreshed when you get back to work, and you’ll be able to connect better as a team by getting to know one another on a more personal level.
