Third, the author feels that the boys and their learning should also be examined. The purpose of this paper was to determine the impact the gender divide and its possible effects had upon the author’s female students. The paper also researched the effects a single-gender math class had upon the author’s fifth grade female students. However, this paper did not consider the impact the single-gender math class had upon the author’s male students. Perhaps further study needs to be conducted to determine the impact
single-gender math classes would have upon male students and their achievements and attitudes toward math.
Fourth, the author feels more research should be conducted. Most previously conducted research has taken place in middle and high school classrooms. It is possible that single- gender math classes could have a positive effect in elementary classrooms. However, more extensive research will need to take place in this area.
