H2S EMERGENCY RESPONSE PLAN
Great Bear Plains 2D
In the event of an H2S exposure, refer to the medical emergency response plan.
In the event of an H2S detection the following plan will be used.
1. UPON HEARING OR SEEING A MONITOR ALARM:
A) Do not panic! Stay calm, and hold your breath while putting on your
escape pack.
B) Immediately begin walking to a safe head count area that is cross wind/right
angle to the alarm.
C) Account for all team members.
D) Call observer and notify them of the alarm.
E) Give observer the location and any information that indicates ownership of
the source.
F) HSE Advisor will begin investigation immediately.
2. MAN DOWN: H2S EXPOSURE
A) DO NOT ATTEMPT RESCUE WITH AN ESCAPE PACK ON.
B) Only attempt rescue:
1 After calling 911
2. After putting on 30-minute rescue pack, and another person with a 30
minute rescue pack is ready to go in with you.
(ALWAYS USE THE BUDDY SYSTEM. NO ONE GOES IN, ALONE!)
3, Establishing a line of communication with the observer or safety
personnel.
C) After rescue administer first aid immediately.
D) Secure the area and complete evacuation.
E) HSE personnel will begin investigation immediately
When working in areas where H2S is known to exist remember the following;
1 Always be aware of wind direction, low areas, and escape routes.
2. Know the location of the nearest 30-minute rescue pack.
3 Know the location of your crew's members at all times.
